Nominate now in the Countryside Alliance Awards

Image The Countryside Alliance Awards, formerly the Best Rural Retailer competition, are now open to nominations, so cast yours here. Daily Telegraph columnist Andrew Pierce recently started the hunt for the rural politicians of the year. The political awards and the title rural hero of 2008 will be judged for the first time this year alongside the prizes for the best rural retailers in four categories which have been awarded in previous years. Hunter gives Countryside Alliance Foundation some welly

Simon Hart and Chris Dewbury Hunter's European Sales Director Chris Dewbury (right) handed over a cheque for £5,000 to Chief Executive Simon Hart at the 2008 CLA Gamefair at Blenheim Palace. The £5,000 charitable donation to The Countryside Alliance Foundation was given in gratitude for a competition the Alliance ran which enabled members to help Hunter gain valuable feedback about what they would like to see in the new Hunter sporting boot.

Blow for Angling

ImageThe angling community will be saddened to hear that Keith Elliott's angling column in the Independent on Sunday has been axed after twenty two years. We hope the newspaper can prove it is still committed to the sport of fishing and hasn't just sidelined a past-time loved by millions of people. Read more about this in the Guardian
 
A future for Post Offices?

Love your Post OfficeLast week saw the last of the current national round of Post Offices closures announced. Herefordshire, Worcestershire and the West Midlands are likely to lose the 56 sub-post offices earmarked for closure. As has been the case in the rest of the country the reaction has been a mixture of anger and resignation. Anger that a service which means so much too so many people can be treated with such contempt. Resignation that the Government and Post Office Ltd. are set on their current course and that no level of public outcry seems to reach their lofty towers.
